A trader was ploughing his field when his plough struck something hard. He dug and pulled out a clay pot — filled with gold coins! His eyes gleamed. "If I tell no one," he thought, "all this gold is mine." Greed took over his heart. He buried the pot deep in his courtyard and covered it with soil, visiting the spot secretly every night. Then came a night of heavy rain. Water flooded the courtyard and the ground caved in. When the rain stopped, the trader rushed out. The pit had collapsed, the pot lay broken, and the coins were scattered in the mud — half of them washed away. The trader wrung his hands in regret. He understood at last: what is gained through greed never lasts. Moral: Greed always ends in ruin.
